The “feast-to-famine cycle” will kill your agency

Back in 2017, I left Google aged 23 to create a design agency.

I’d been working with some of the fastest growing agencies in the UK who were collectively spending ~$12M annually and I wanted to take what I learned, and give things a shot.

Most of our initial business came from referrals.

If you’re an agency/consultancy founder, you’ll know how hard this is to scale.

So I started creating content. Landed my first few clients.

Then I started doing outreach. Landed my next few clients.

But back then, there was no AI and automation.

We became so busy with trying to balance between delivery and sales that we stopped growing altogether.

This is a VERY common agency for most agencies between 1-20 employees.

Here is how you break out of that cycle:

➡️ 1. Automate content creation

We integrated ChatGPT into Google Sheets, and then created a LinkedIn caption maker.

You type in the idea, and 10 seconds later you have 60 variations of the same idea, written in different ways.

I spend about 15-30 minutes creating posts these days.

➡️ 2. Create a volume bases outreach campaign.

Set-up an outbound campaign targeting around 5K-10K+ people per month.

It should be a ICP (ideal customer persona) with a massive TAM (total addressable market).

For example, targeting heads of sales of SaaS companies.

There are about 50-100K+ potential decision makers you can go after in Europe alone.

That means it'd take you around 10 months to get through the list.

You set this up once, and it’ll drive leads for you for months.

It is that simple.

Do you really think if you're outreaching to 50K-100K+ people in just under a year, that you won’t book meetings?

➡️ 3. Create an outbound campaign based off triggers

This is my favourite.

This will be your highest ROI campaigns.

You’ll outreach based off of sales triggers such as likes and comments, or maybe you want to outreach to someone looking for your skill set (you’re an ads

agency, and you’re outreaching to companies hiring an ad specialist).

➡️ 4. Have AI qualify, personalise and outreach.

Get AI to do all the dirty work you don’t want to.

→ You don’t have to spend hours building outreach lists. AI does it.

→ You don’t have waste hours qualifying each person. AI does it.

→ You don’t have to sit around thinking of a clever icebreaker. AI does it.

Better still, once you’ve setup and refined the process, it just runs on autopilot for you.

You can pump tens of thousands of people into this process, and it never gets tired.
